Popular Nollywood comic actor Tunde Usman, widely known by his stage name Okele, has opened up about his recent decision to sell his car and switch to using public transportation.
In a candid interview published on the official YouTube channel of Behind The Fame TV, Okele shared that the move was financially motivated. He explained that he needed money but preferred not to rely on others or solicit financial help.
“People should stop measuring an actor’s success by the number of cars or houses they own,” Okele said during the interview. “Our craft should be judged by the quality of our work and storytelling abilities—not by material possessions.”
He went on to reveal that he had initially tried to fix his car, but mounting repair costs became unsustainable. “I spent almost five million naira trying to repair the car,” he explained. “Eventually, I realized the mechanic was only taking advantage of me, so I made the decision to sell the car. I’d rather take commercial transport than beg anyone for money.”
Okele’s story sheds light on the financial realities often faced by actors behind the scenes, despite public perceptions of wealth and glamour associated with the entertainment industry.
