SOWORE RAISES CONCERN OVER KUDIRAT’S FORMER AIDE

Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has raised fresh concerns about Lateef Shofolahan, the former personal assistant to the late Kudirat Abiola, a prominent pro-democracy activist assassinated in 1996.

In a recent interview with Channels Television, Sowore alleged that Shofolahan, who was accused of betraying Kudirat’s location to her assailants, is now working closely with retired Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to the late military ruler General Sani Abacha.

Kudirat Abiola was shot and killed on June 4, 1996, in Lagos, along with her driver, Dauda Atanda. Shofolahan, who was in the car at the time, escaped without injuries.

Speaking during the interview, Sowore said:

“The guy who was accused of exposing Kudirat’s location to them is still with Mustapha; they are still hanging around. The guy who was Kudirat’s P.A is now Mustapha’s bodyguard or one of his bodyguards. You are hearing it from me, yes.”

Shofolahan was previously convicted alongside Al-Mustapha in connection with Kudirat’s murder but was later discharged and acquitted by the Court of Appeal in 2013.

Neither Al-Mustapha nor Shofolahan has responded publicly to Sowore’s claims as of the time of this report.
