STAKEHOLDERS DISCUSS MEDIA IN US

Top media professionals, political and business leaders, diplomats, scholars, activists, and other key stakeholders will today speak at a panel discussion on “The media of the future”.

The event is part of the Black futures summit 2024 held alongside the United Nations summit of the future, during the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Today’s dialogue with the theme “The Media of the Future: Bridging the gap between the west and people of African descent,” is organised by Global Patriot Newspapers

Panelists include Simon Kolawole, the publisher of TheCable Newspaper and Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).

Others are Akil Khalfani, director of the Africana Institute, Essex County College, New Jersey; Oyiza Adaba, CEO of AfricaRelated; Yul Anderson, president of the African America Future Society; Toyin Umesiri, CEO of Nazarau; Laolu Akande, editor-in-chief of the Empowered Newswire; and Nicky S. Coker, spokesperson of the permanent mission of Sierra Leone to the UN.

According to Simon Ibe, publisher/editor-in-chief of Global Patriot Newspapers, the dialogue will critically assess the current state of media among people of African descent compared to western media.

Ibe said the dialogue aims to envision an ideal future, offer strategies for bridging the existing divide, and outline steps needed for African-descended media to reach its full potential, benefiting both the community and the global landscape.
