SUPER FALCONETS FOR FINAL

The Super Falconets of Nigeria sealed their place in the final of African Games 2023 with a commanding 2-0 victory over Uganda in Cape Coast, Ghana.

The Ugandans put up a resolute performance in the match, keeping the Falconets at bay until they conceded two goals in the last 16 minutes of the encounter.

Okah Adaobi took the place of Olushola Shobowale in the 74th minute and scored with her first touch of the match.

Chiamaka Okwuchukwu scored the winning goal for Nigeria.

The Falconets’ win sets up a thrilling final against the host nation Ghana, who defeated Senegal in the other semi-final tie.

The Nigerian side is determined to claim gold in the women’s football competition.

The team has played exceptionally well throughout the tournament, and are yet to concede a goal in three matches having defeated Morocco 2-0, Senegal 4-0 and Uganda 2-0.

The Falconets’ success has been built on a solid team effort, with every player contributing to their impressive run.

As they prepare for the final, the Falconets will be hoping to maintain their momentum and clinch the gold medal in style.

Nigeria won gold in the previous edition in 2019.

The Falconets will be confident of mounting a strong defence of their African Games crown this time around as they face Ghana in a fierce final clash in the coming days.

Speaking on Monday, Sports Analyst, Stanley Smart believes the Falconets can go all the way and win the Gold medal if they maintain their impressive form.

According to him, the Falconets are a force to be reckoned with in women’s football.

“I think the Super Falconets’ performance in the African Games has been exceptional so far. They have scored eight goals and maintained a clean sheet in three matches, which shows their dominance in the tournament,” Smart said.

“The team has played solidly in every department and deserves their place in the final.

“Their final challenger, Ghana, should not be taken lightly, as they have also performed well in the tournament.

“However, if the Falconets maintain their impressive form, they should be able to win the gold medal. The Falconets are an experienced side, who seem to understand themselves very well.

“Their success in the 2019 edition of the tournament shows that they have what it takes to compete at the highest level.

“With a blend of youth and experience in their team, the Falconets are a force to be reckoned with in women’s football. “Overall, I expect a thrilling final match, and I look forward to watching the Falconets compete for the gold medal,” he further stated.
