TINUBU CONGRATULATES D’TIGRESS

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated African champions D’Tigress after clinching the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title for the fourth consecutive time, The PUNCH reports.

Following their triumph at the just-concluded tournament in Kigali, Rwanda, D’Tigress arrived Abuja on Sunday, where they were given a heroic welcome.

The four-time champions arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja via Ethiopian Airlines and were received by officials of the Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, led by the Director, Federation, Elites and Athletes Department, Dr Simon Ebhojiaye.

Rena Wakama’s team were later in the evening hosted to a light reception by the ministry.

Tinubu sent a congratulatory message to the team through his official Twitter handle.

“I congratulate our very own D’Tigress for a well deserved fourth consecutive AfroBasket Women Championship. We are proud of you,” he wrote.

D’Tigress on Saturday beat fierce rivals Senegal 84-74 in a thrilling final encounter to emerge champions of Africa for the fourth consecutive time.

The victory means Nigeria became only the second team ever, after Senegal, to win four consecutive titles and they did so in style by extending their unbeaten run to 23 games.
