Award-winning Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage, has revealed the impact pregnancy had on her voice while recording her 2015 album, R.E.D.
Speaking on the Afrobeats Intelligence platform, the music star recounted the emotional and physical challenges she faced in the studio during that period.
“I was pregnant when I recorded R.E.D. I would be in the studio crying with my big belly. It was a struggle to record the album,” she shared.
Savage noted that the changes in her voice forced her to adjust the musical arrangement of some tracks. “I changed the key of some of the songs in the album because being pregnant affected how I could hit some notes.”
She also described how her team at Mavin Records, led by Don Jazzy, supported her through the process. “I was the first person to have a baby in Mavin. So whenever they noticed my energy was going down, Jazzy would tell them to get me my cravings—eggs and bread.”
Tiwa Savage signed with Mavin Records in 2012 before exiting in 2019 to join Universal Music Group.
