TRADITIONAL MEDIA STILL SUPERIOR, ASAMPONG

The 13th edition of the biennial conference and exhibition of Africa broadcasters AFRICAST 2023, organised by the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, began yesterday, Tuesday 24th October, 2023 at the Marriot Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

A major feature of the event is paper presentations.

Mr Theodore Asampong, CEO, Platform Services, SES, during the event presented a paper on the topic; Satellite Platforms: Using it to Deliver Content Everywhere Cost Effectively.

In his presentation, Mr. Asampong displayed an ongoing trend in the media such as Direct-To– Home (DTH) Satellite and Live Streaming.

This trend according to the speaker, shows that traditional media is still relevant, despite the growth of streaming, adding that the reach of traditional media remains superior to streaming reach.

He also pointed out, that satellite remains more cost-effective for content, compared to streaming. Stressing, that, although streaming is not a profitable business yet, eventually all content will go into streaming between 15 to 20 years from now.

He concluded his presentation, by describing satellite as the most cost-effective way for transmission and advised that satellites be used for the Digital Switch Over (DSO) because it is quick and has a high spectrum.
