WIZKID WAS BIG BEFORE I STARTED MUSIC, DAVIDO

Famous Nigerian Afrobeat artiste, David Adeleke, professionally known as Davido has revealed that his colleague Ayodeji Balogun better addressed as Wizkid was already a big name in the music industry before he (Davido) began his career.

His words:

“When I was in Atlanta, Alabama axis, I was always tapping on what’s going on back home in Nigeria because I love African music. At the time, major artist that were really ringing were Dbanj, 2Baba, P-Square and Wizkid. So I’d play their music for my friends and my friends will be like “Yo! What’s that? It sounds hard.”

Then I knew that like one day afrobeats was gonna blow up. I wasn’t really singing then, I was just embracing the culture and channelling my talent towards afrobea:ts. Any opportunity I had, I would always talk about Africa to anybody.

Like they used to ask me “Yo, where are you from that you’re this talented?” And I would say Nigeria and start showing them pictures. So I’ve always been like that, even without my music, I’ve always loved to sell my country and culture to the world.”

“Before I came back to Nigeria, Wizkid was already a big name and people loved him. If I wasn’t super talented, I wouldn’t be here today because Wizkid was already far when I started.”
