A PEEP INTO AGBAKO’S BACKGROUND

Charles Olumo was born in a village at Egbaowode, Owode in Ogun state. His parents were very poor but he never let that weigh him down. At 95 Charles Olumo is one of the living legends from the old order of Nigerian filmmakers.

His real name is Alhaji Abdulsalam Sanyaolu but popularly known as Charles Olumo or Agbako. He was born on February 19, 1925.

He began acting about 67 years ago when he formed the Charles Olumo theatre group.

Before forming the group, his first contact and interest in acting became noticeable after visiting a friend at the Apostolic Church in Mushin assembly during a drama rehearsal.

Agbako has been married to several women and he has been blessed with lots of children but none of his children followed his footsteps. The late Hubert Ogunde and Akin Ogungbe were his role models.
