AWUJALE AKILE IJEBU: THE LONGEST REIGNING MONARCH IN NIGERIA

It has been his unique luck to reign and dine with virtually all Nigerian Leaders from Alhaji Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Rt. Hon. Dr. Benjamin Nnamdi Azikiwe to the present President Muhammad Buhari; One Premier of old Western Region, Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola who installed him in 1960; One Sole Administrator of the Region, Dr. Moses Adekoyejo Majekodunmi under whom he served as a Minister during the Emergency Era, 1963; three Military Governors of the same Region, Major-General Robert Adeyinka Adebayo, Brigadier Oluwole Rotimi and Major-General David Medaiyese Jemibewon; all Governors (military and civil) of Ogun State since Colonel (later Major-General) Seidu Balogun, the pioneer State Governor (1976) to the present sitting Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

He has also reigned along with three Ooni of Ife beginning with Sir Adesoji Aderemi, KBE, Oonirisa Sijuwade Olubushe II, and the current Ooni Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II.

Providence has also made it possible for Kabiyesi Awujale to reign with two Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Gbadegesin Ladigbolu and Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi, III; about 10 Olubadans since Oba Isaac Akinyele and four Alake Egba from Sir Ladapo Ademola, KBE, Oba Gbadebo, Oba Mofolorunsho Lipede and the present, Oba Gbadebo.

May the good Lord grant our esteemed Kabiyesi Alaiyeluwa more years on the exalted throne of his forebears with excellent health, increased prosperity, and unrestrained happiness.

Courtesy, Mr. Kester Olaifa in his contribution on Awujale’s birthday.
