BUKKY WRIGHT: HOW LADOJA INFLUENCED MY LIFE

Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has revealed the pivotal role the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rasheed Ladoja, played in pushing her acting career.

According to the actress, it was the traditional ruler’s support that opened doors to her first major film opportunity.

Sharing the story on her Instagram on Sunday, February 8, 2026, Bukky posted a video alongside Oba Ladoja, whom she fondly refers to as her uncle.

In the caption, she expressed heartfelt gratitude for his guidance at a time when she was just starting out in Nollywood.

“Olubadan of Ibadan is my uncle. He introduced me to Mainframe Productions for an audition, which led to my first significant role in Saworo Ide. I’ll forever be grateful,” Bukky stated.

Her role in Saworo Ide, a 1999 classic produced by the acclaimed Tunde Kelani, marked a turning point in her career.

The political drama, which explored themes of governance, tradition, and corruption, remains one of the most influential films in Yoruba cinema. Bukky’s performance was widely praised and helped cement her status as a rising star in the Nigerian film industry.

Bukky Wright’s journey in Nollywood began in 1996, with steady roles in both Yoruba and English-language films. Over the years, she starred in several notable projects, including Iyore and When Love Happens, establishing herself as one of the industry’s respected actresses.

Following her early successes, Bukky took an extended break from the local film scene after moving abroad, leaving a noticeable void among fans.

However, in recent years, she has made a triumphant return to Nollywood, appearing in movies such as Something About the Briggs and Red Circle, signaling a renewed dedication to her craft. Reflecting on her journey, Bukky Wright’s story highlights how mentorship, family support, and opportunity can shape a lasting career in Nollywood.
