CHANGE OF STYLE AT DAAR

Dare Awonugba, the successor to broadcasting legend Ambrose Somide at DAAR Communications, has introduced a new style of operation.

Somide left the company founded by the late Raymond Alegho Dokpesi after 30 years of high-impact contributions on October 31, 2024.

He exited as Director of Radio Services, paving the way for Awonugba to assume the position while also overseeing the well-established Raypower and Faaji FM, the radio station with a massive street following.

After a shaky start that saw a reduction in hours of operation—which were later restored—Awonugba has adopted a new template for running the stations.

Keen followers of the station noted that he has reshuffled programme hours and instituted more music segments.

“Among other things, on Faaji FM, the timing for the early morning newspaper reviews in Yoruba and Pidgin English has been changed from 6:30 a.m. – 7:15 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. – 7:00 a.m., with all in-house programmes now featuring plenty of music sessions,” sources revealed.

Additional information indicates that late-night music sessions have also been introduced on a daily basis.

“The new man (Awonugba) has made some very noticeable changes to the system he inherited from Somide. He is putting his stamp of authority on the process, and many people are not surprised. It is the natural order when batons change hands,” an insider explained.

The general consensus is that Awonugba, with the new direction he is steering DAAR Communications’ radio stations, is targeting younger listeners—who form the largest percentage of the nation’s population.

Somide, who left DAAR Communications in a blaze of glory, is currently managing operations at his own radio station, Smailz FM.
