I WAS NOT PART OF CAF ELECTION, AMUNEKE

Former Super Eagles winger, Emmanuel Amuneke has said that he was never elected to vote in the CAF Awards while reacting to reports that he voted for Mohamed Salah of Egypt ahead of Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen in the 2023 CAF Player of the Year Award.

Amuneke also claimed the viral video that led to the uproar was a Moroccan journalist asking him to choose between Salah and Achraf Hakimi.

“I was never elected to vote in the CAF Awards. A Moroccan journalist came to me and asked ‘Hakimi or Salah’.

“I said Salah because I played in Egypt and I lived in Egypt and I know some of the guys there. Osimhen was never in the conversation,” Amuneke said.

Amuneke continued: “So, there is nothing like voting against Osimhen.

“Osimhen is our player and our boy. We are happy about what he has achieved and we hope he would continue to dream and achieve more for the betterment of his career and the betterment of Nigeria. “It has come a time in our culture in Nigeria – with all due respect to you guys, we should stop spreading false news and stop creating false impression to the people.

Osimhen was crowned CAF Player of the Year on Monday night, ahead of Salah and Hakimi.
