JOKE SILVA, FANS CELEBRATE OLU JACOBS

Veteran Nollywood actor, Olu Jacobs, is celebrating his 82nd birthday today, 11th July, 2024.

This comes barely two weeks after rumours of his death made the rounds on social media.

Jacobs’ wife, Joke Silva, took to her Instagram page to celebrate the milestone, sharing a video that included the actor in a customised house coat as she showered him with prayers.

She wrote, “82 just like that… Agba ko ni nira l’agbara Jesu.

“Happy birthday and have an amazing year ahead, my darling… Sir J of life Olu Jacobs (loving his customised housecoat).”

Many celebrities and fans storm the comment section showering prayers on the movie star.

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde wrote, “Happy birthday to a legend, a father to the industry, an outstanding actor, an incredible soul.”

Osas Ighodaro wrote, “Happy Birthday, legend! God bless you immensely.”

Chioma Akpotha wrote, “A living legend ! Happy birthday, Sir. We love you.”

Jacobs, born on July 11, 1942, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. He began his career in the United Kingdom, where he featured in various British television shows and films before returning to Nigeria in the late 1980s. His return marked the beginning of a prolific career in Nollywood, where he quickly became a household name.

Jacobs is best known for his roles in movies such as “Ashanti,” “The Dogs of War,” “Pirates,” “Violet,” and “The Royal Hibiscus Hotel.”

His deep, resonant voice and commanding screen presence made him a favourite among fans and colleagues alike. He also starred in several popular Nigerian television series, further cementing his legacy as a versatile and talented actor.

Olu Jacobs’ contributions to the Nigerian film industry is recognized with numerous awards and accolades, including the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role and the Industry Merit Award for outstanding achievements in acting.
