LOLA IDIJE: FROM ‘DEADLY AFFAIR’ TO STARDOM

Toyin Afolayan (born September 24, 1959), widely known as Lola Idije, is a prominent Nigerian film actress. She gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Madam Adisa in the 1995 film Deadly Affair.

Toyin Afolayan is credited with popularizing the internet slangs “Soro Soke Werey” and “Pele My Dear.” The phrase “Soro Soke Werey” was notably used by ENDSARS protesters in Nigeria to demand that the government speak up and address the issues surrounding the excesses of the SARS Police unit.

Toyin Afolayan hails from Agbamu, Kwara State in Southwest Nigeria. She is a cousin to the legendary Adeyemi Afolayan (aka Ade Love) and his children, who are also renowned Nigerian actors, including Kunle Afolayan, Gabriel Afolayan, Aremu Afolayan, and Moji Afolayan. Toyin’s journey into acting began in the 1980s, influenced by Ade Love. She has since remained a significant figure in Nollywood, particularly in Yoruba cinema.

The veteran actress has been active in the movie industry for about three decades, with her breakthrough role coming in 1995 when she starred as Mama Adisa in Deadly Affair.

Toyin Afolayan is a widow, a mother of three daughters, and a grandmother. Sadly, her only son passed away during infancy. Recently, she was named the brand ambassador for Boalas Homes and Gardens.
