MY ENCOUNTER WITH OBASANJO, EEDRIS

Nigerian veteran musician, Eedris Abdulkareem, has shared details about his encounter with former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo following the release of his song “Jaga-Jaga,” where he criticized the government.

Abdulkareem revealed in a video posted on The Honest Bunch Podcast’s official Instagram page, during an interview with Nedu, that Obasanjo referred to him as a foolish young man and remarked that it was his parents who embodied the chaos depicted in the song.

In a video posted on Instagram, he stated that, “When I was sleeping, someone called me on the phone and told me to turn on the television because Obasanjo was talking about me. Obasanjo said I’m a stupid boy and that it’s my mother and my father that’s Jaga-Jaga. I was so happy that my message got to the president.”

Speaking further he stated that, “Three months later, Obasanjo gathered his governors, and they were going to Europe to look for foreign investors, and my friend, who was a German ambassador, called me to come and perform at an event, and knowing that the president was coming, immediately they played my song. Obasanjo got angry and left the event.”
