NBC HOLDS STAKEHOLDERS SUMMIT IN KANO

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) recently organized a one-day stakeholder engagement in Kano, aiming to address the rising concerns of unprofessional broadcasting standards in the state. The event brought together participants from 45 broadcast stations in Kano.

In his address, NBC Director General Mr. Charles Ebuebu emphasized the need for broadcasters to adhere to the core principles of professionalism, including creativity, innovation, truth, fairness, and respect. He urged operators to refrain from character assassination and defamation, instead promoting responsible journalism, fact-checking, and respect for all individuals.

Represented by Coordinating Director, Broadcast Monitoring, Mrs. Susan Obi, Mr. Ebuebu stressed the significant influence broadcasters have on public opinion and their responsibility to promote a more informed, civil, and compassionate society.

Kano State Commissioner of Information, Comrade Ibrahim Wayya, highlighted the state government’s efforts to sanitize the airwaves, particularly in regards to political broadcasts. He commended the NBC for its efforts and reiterated the state government’s commitment to promoting refined language in broadcasting. The event concluded with the signing of commitments by broadcast media operatives in Kano, demonstrating their dedication to upholding professional broadcasting standards.
