NBC TO CREATE PLATFORM FOR BROADCAST ISSUES

The Director General, National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, Mr Charles Ebuebu, has pledged to create a platform where issues affecting the broadcasting industry would be discussed.

He said this during a meeting himself alongside the Board of Management of the Commission, held with members of the Broadcasting Organizations of Nigeria (BON), led by the Vice Chairman, SHC, Tony Akiotun, representing the BON Chairman on Thursday, 5th September, 2024.

Central to the discussion was the Digital Switchover, and other sundry issues impacting on the Broadcasting Industry.

The DG, welcoming the members of BON, stated that he was happy to meet with the executives of BON which the Commission sees as partners in the Industry.

He pledged to create a platform where issues affecting the broadcasting industry would be discussed.

The Vice Chairman (BON) expressed his concerns on the Digital Switch Over(DSO) process.

He pointed out that the white paper still has the issues of licensing various components of DSO which includes signal distribution, Set-Top-Box manufacturing and other critical issues.

SHC Tony Akiotun advised the NBC to call for a holistic review of the DSO project, which will address the state of digital migration, the challenges faced and the technologies to be deployed.

The DG NBC in his response to the issues raised stated that the press conference held was meant to sensitize the public about the DSO process and that relevant stakeholders will still be engaged in the process.

He further mentioned that the DSO will be a sustainable ecosystem where content thrives, skills are promoted, and jobs are created.
