PRESENTER BREAKS DOWN ON AIR

On a live broadcast of Tifuntedo Iroyin on Splash FM Ibadan, Temilade Aloko, broke down in tears after learning of the death of her colleague’s husband.

The emotional moment happened towards the end of the news on Saturday morning when her co-presenter announced the passing, prompting her to lose composure on air.

The broadcaster explained that her reaction was borne out of empathy, recalling the struggles her colleague endured during her husband’s illness.

“I have walked closely with my colleague through her struggles during her husband’s illness. She endured countless sleepless nights, took several emergency leaves, and often broke down from exhaustion. Despite her sacrifices, she still lost him,” she said.

She stressed that broadcasters also face personal challenges and appealed to the public to remember that they are human and not immune to grief.

“The truth is: we broadcasters go through a lot that people fail to understand—even those close to us. Like everyone else, we face marital issues, financial challenges, health concerns, and personal struggles. Yet, once we are on air, we are expected to perform flawlessly, as though nothing is wrong. Ours is a profession that requires total concentration, because once we lose focus, the entire program—especially the news—is affected,” she stressed.

“This was exactly what came to my mind when my colleague’s husband’s death was being announced.”

She concluded by extending heartfelt condolences to her colleague, Aminat Adetoun Badmus Motala, and her family over the painful loss.
