CONCERN OVER APPRENTICE WHO IMPREGNATED 10 GIRLS

The Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, has expressed concern over a disturbing case involving an 18-year-old apprentice who was alleged to have impregnated ten girls within a five-month period, including his master’s daughter and a salesgirl.

It was reported that during a live video broadcast on social media on Wednesday, Obinabo revealed the incident and appealed to the public for assistance, acknowledging that the situation had escalated beyond what she could handle alone.

She explained that the boy had been sent to work as an apprentice under a businessman, but his apprenticeship was terminated after just three months when it was discovered that he had impregnated both the businessman’s daughter and a salesgirl working in the same establishment.

The commissioner further noted that the situation deteriorated after the boy returned to his village. Within two months of his return, he was alleged to have impregnated eight additional girls. She said the number of confirmed pregnancies had risen significantly and that the matter had become too complex for her to handle without public input.

Obinabo also recounted a visit from the boy’s mother, who expressed deep distress over the developments. She quoted the mother as saying, “Anytime I see a girl coming towards our house nowadays, my heart would jump. Please, I need help.”

When asked how he had persuaded the girls to engage in sexual activity, the teenager allegedly told Obinabo that he simply professed love and made promises of marriage.

“I asked the boy the magic he uses in luring the girls to bed, but he told me he always says he loves them and would like to marry them once he makes money,” the Commissioner stated.

Obinabo chose not to reveal the name of the boy, his mother, or the community involved, explaining that the issue was too sensitive to make such details public. However, she appealed to members of the public to suggest possible ways to intervene, questioning whether the matter might have a spiritual dimension.

She stated that the problem had grown beyond her capacity due to the boy’s age and the large number of girls involved, and that this was the reason she was seeking assistance in addressing it.
