FAYOSE EXPOSES HOW WIKE WHISKED HIM TO EVADE ARREST

Former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has revealed how Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), came to his aid when his home was surrounded by personnel from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

An old video of former Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, praising ex-Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike in 2023 has resurfaced on social media.

In the video, which has garnered several reactions, Fayose said the last four years have been the worst of his life. However, he mentioned that it was made less chaotic due to his friendship with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He revealed how Nyesom Wike, who was then the governor of Rivers, came to his aid when his home was surrounded by personnel from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

During the inaugural Banquet of incoming Governor Siminalayi Fubara, he recounted how Wike brought a bulletproof car to pick him up from the governor’s quarters and hid him in his lodge. Fayose said: “My last four years were the biggest of my life because I didn’t have a successor. At midnight, 5 mins to midnight when I was supposed to leave the office, EFCC surrounded my house. I look up, I look down, who should I call? Because they would have made announcements and embarrassed you.”

“I called Governor Wike, I said Governor Wike, find a bulletproof car to come and pick me up. And before you know it, he brought vehicles and they took me away from the government house. No one knew where I was. And he kept me in his lodge, in his bedroom. The EFCC was looking for me. Very early in the morning, they surrounded my house. He saved me from undue and unnecessary embarrassment. He stood by me, he assisted me and he defeated my enemies in my own eyes. Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has increased the charges against Abiodun Agbele, an ally of a former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, from 11 to 24.

The EFCC had in 2016 arraigned Agbele, alongside a former Minister of State for Defence, Musliu Obanikoro; Sylvan Mcnamara Limited; Lt. A.O Adewale; Tunde Oshinowo and Olalekan Ogunseye (all at large) at a Federal High Court in Abuja on 11 charges of money laundering to the tune of N1.219bn. The money is part of N4.7bn allegedly transferred from an account belonging to the Office of the National Security Adviser in the Central Bank of Nigeria.
